It can be set on the ice (wasn't sure if it would let me... it did) but immediately sinks and is lost forever.
For me, having my boats locked in the ice is what sucks the most about winter. I didn't settle on the ocean so I can't access the ocean with my snekkja. I happened to be out questing (Nomad) when winter rolled in, and couldn't fast travel back to my dock (until I logged on a separate char and chopped out ice.) Now I'm ice-bound. Stuff like that.

Great, so eternal summer is a gift to factions AND a noob trap.

Didn't say I didn't want winter, was just relating my experiences. Lots of things I enjoy about winter. Also, not sure I qualify as a "noob" after seven years - I'm just absentminded and prone to stupid mistakes (much like my rl) Was looking forward to building a mound bed, then deftly threw my only compost bin in the lake.

I am not very supportive of this mechanics radiating summer either.
I would much prefer some winter crops, such as cabbage ... with some bonus when they get their first frost, or things like that.
Also as someone said, a barn for animals during winter would be very nice.

This was great opportunity to use "Timeline got fucked up" as an excuse.
Perhaps next time.

However I just lit a fire and the fact that the snow around it melts is a nice touch, I really like it, maybe the area is a little too big though, a small portion around the fire would be really eye-catching.

Make winter last, at least, 10 days
Stop growth of Decidious trees in winter and allow Evergreen trees to keep growing like normal
Remove recently added Mounds and make active claims irradiate heat instead
Increase Mammoth spawn rate on winter and allow them spawn on any snow tile
Add small chance of sleeping Bears spawning on burrows wich enrage when awakens

Also this: (yes, its from two worlds ago)

Yes! I suggested this a while back. Just have new players spawn In The summer zone, that's all. It would be fucking great

This is the neatest part and should not be controversial. Hot shit melting snow is wicked cool and fits nice in the game. Other part of it is complicated I guess.

People are complaining about how bad pvp is in the winter...

Are we forgetting that the goal of the game is not PVP and that ultimately should not be the deciding factor between good content or not. I like the patch, do I think its a bandaid? kinda yeah but its a unique problem that will take a lot of work shopping of ideas.

Also any content that inhibits PVP is a positive good change for the game. :D
