Planned downtime: Router maintenance (2024-11-06 03:30 UTC)

Postby loftar » Mon Nov 04, 2024 12:41 am

Hetzner, the server hosting provider, has informed me that they plan to do maintenance on the router that the Haven server sits behind. Not sure what level of redundancy they have around it, but I would assume the reason they're informing me of it is that the server will be inaccessible during that time.

For this reason, I'm going to bring the game server down during the maintenance window, so that the game doesn't become inaccessible while it's running. The announced maintenance window is 03:30-05:30 UTC on 2024-11-06.

Hetzner has a tracking page for the issue available here. Presumably, they will update it with the progress of the operation.

Probably should mention this on the steam announcements as well, no?

Hmm. You're probably right, but looking at announcement posting on Steam, I have to choose a category, and there's no category for "planned maintenance" and it needs cover art and whatnot. Is there some example from another game to take after?

Travellers Rest does hotfixes/mini updates, Chef RPG has done mini updates, they do not have cover art.

Don't worry too much about being fancy for now, getting the message out is what matters most.

This is a recent one from Dwarf Fortress that has a single line: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/975370/view/4542535656071495803
And an older post from Warframe relating to steam deck issues: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/230410/view/3674426239847231346

They both use "Small Update/Patch Notes" so I think either that or "News" might be your only choices.

Welp, I posted it as a "small patch". That didn't require any banner art, at least.

That's like the second planned outage I've seen in the last decade I'm a customer at Hetzners.
Had worse experiences elsewere.
