Game Development: Radish Butchery

Postby jorb » Thu Mar 12, 2026 1:05 am

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

New Implementations
-----------------------
  • Added "Radish"es, plant. They have three harvestable stages, where the later stages give more seeds, and the earlier stages more radishes. They count as "Tuber"s. Radishes as such cannot be replanted.
  • There is now a mass butchery command. You can Shift-click a carcass lying on the ground to get an area select indicator using the harvest pointer. The character will butcher anything in the commanded area from start to finish without asking questions.
  • Added "Pickled Peas", food.

Key Fixes
-----------------------
  • Reworked the quests for the "Fisherman" credo, pushing them more in the direction of catching generic categories of fish (E.g. "Catch Nx Big Fish", "...Ocean Fish", &c, and somewhat away from "catch these awfully specific ones". The latter quests still exist, but show up later in the credo and are rarer. Reduced prevalence of references to cast fishing specifically (craft cast-lures,&c). Let us know you mileage.
  • Reworked the armor repair mechanic so that: The armor being repaired is never quality modulated by the armor used to repair it, but, rather, the amount of armor hit points restored by the repair is significantly dependent on the quality. The action now presents the amount of points you will repair before you actually do it.
  • "Demijohn"s now present a progress indicator for whatever transformation is occurring in them.

Small Fixes
-----------------------
  • Fixed various map related bugs: Map could lose markers and whatnot when merging map segments, Icons could shake visually in the max zoomed out mode, notification sounds would sometimes be "retained" by the map, only to be spookily played when reopening. Clicking a map icon will now properly swap to the correct Placed/Natural icon list.
  • Fixed a smol bug by which re-clicking in the wound list would flicker.
  • Fixed smol bug by which one could get braaains without the "Fine Butchery" skill.
  • "Cave Slime", "Caverat Whiskers" and "Suckling's Maw" all go in the "Poacher's Pouch".
  • Added a lore text to "Dead Woodscorpion".

As always, if you liked what we did here: Support the patch.

Today's Patch Item, for the fair price of $7, is the "Sausage Baron's Hat".

Store Description wrote:Image$7 This hat bought mince for pennies on the dollar during the crash, and has cornered the market on breakfast links and salami ever since. If you like sausage, you don't want to see how it is made!

All Gold subscribers have been awarded the "Sausage Baron's Hat", free of charge.

UPDATE YOUR CLIENTS... for the new minimap changes/fixes.

Enjoy!

Finally radishes, thanks! Now we just miss cabbage and related dishes.
How about some radish specific recipes? Like a snack with radish + vegetable oil + salt, and radish+cucumber+greens salad.
