Game Development: Gongalong!

Postby jorb » Wed May 27, 2026 8:27 pm

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

New Implementations
-----------------------
  • Added "Gong Stand", a decorative "instrument"/piece of furniture. Right-click to activate, and right-click again to whack. No two metal types sound quite alike!

Key Fixes
-----------------------
  • Reworked the crafting input selector a bit. Input slots are now highlighted in red if they lack input. You can hover over an input slot to highlight the item currently selected for it. You can left-click an input slot to get a cursor with which you can point at the input you would like to use for the slot. Noticed that e.g. alchemy recipes were quite unwieldy to craft.
  • Did more work on the "Alchemy Book". Negative effects are now properly displayed. You can now filter your elixir list on effects and/or inputs. There is now a separate page which lists known effects on primitive alchemical inputs. (Some outstanding things left to fix: Favorites, ingredient entries for processed inputs, distinction between wound conversion and wound healing. The two pages in the book currently borrow icons from the Character Sheet.).
  • Fixed a bug by which it was possible to bypass the give-hat-away timers by using Valhalla. The give-hat-away timers are now counted in objective UTC time, rather than server time. All give-away-hat timers have been removed, so if you had initiated donation of a hat, you will now have to redo that. Apologies.

Small Fixes
-----------------------
  • "Salt Crystal"s, "Curious Needle"s, "Ant Chitin", "Cave Louse Chitin", and "Ant Wing"s now all stack, and can be held in the "Poacher's Pouch".
  • Queen Ant/Bee Wings, and all "Bugs", can be held in the "Poacher's Pouch".
  • Fixed a bug by which dragging the map caused Thingwall connections to blink.

As always, if you liked what we did here: Support the patch.

Today's Patch Item, for the fair price of $7, is the "Dino Cap".

Store Description wrote:Image$7 This Jurassic fashion statement stands ready to put a cap on any mammalian supremacy plans!

All Gold & Silver subscribers have been awarded the "Dino Cap", free of charge.

In the Pipe

UPDATE YOUR CLIENTS... for cool new Alchemy Book changes.

Enjoy!

Our primary development direction is toward object-controlled-objects.

Is the plan still to reset both worlds at the end of the year? I really hoped we would get an announcement to reset W16 on June.

If it doesn't already the gong should scare animals in a radius
