I put this down to partially my own fault and down to a bug regarding the gates. Last night I left the keys to my gates in a basket for a party member to pickup once he had finished doing whatever he was doing when I went offline, according to him, the server crashed and he was unable to return in order to get the keys. So alas, I log on earlier to find that someone has taken the keys (to no surprise). However instead of just taking the keys, the person has opened up both gates and has extended a wall across the gate. I am now trapped inside and am unable to leave or re-enter if I were to respawn at the ring of Brodgar.

Picture shows the wall extended across the gate.

God, reading this post pisses me off. I fail to understand how someone can be such an asshole as to go that far to ruin your gameplay. I mean, I understand if he stole stuff, but why completely ruin your gaming experience and ruin lots of hard work?

Feel sorry for you man, hopefully a strong character will happily come knock it down for you, or Jorb'll get rid of the pallisade wall (not the gate, otherwise it'd be unfair, cause that's practically getting rid of something that works fine).

As for the guy with the key, get the strong character to knock down the gate as well and rebuild one. Next time, make a key for both you and your partner (I know this is hard with the prospecting and all, but do that or just get a village idol in the base, and a hearthfire outside of the base).

i thought players couldnt build on another person's claim without being kinned

I know where that is, they didn't have a claim when I last went up there.

There was a valid reason to why there was no claim. A claim we had laid down beforehand disapeared after a server crash, the game still thought that claim had existed which in turn prevented me placing a new one down, which now the devs have kindly fixed for me.

Seems likely to be a bug if you can extend walls where open gates exist...?

Yes, it is. Currently, objects can only either have a bounding box or not, so when I open a gate, I remove its bounding box completely. I want to change that so that I can have different "categories" of bounding boxes, which would fix problems like these and a couple of other things as well. If I only knew where that was, I'd come over and gobble up those violating pieces of palisade.

Wouldn't this be an excellent time to implement :where, to show the coordinates where you are currently?

umm... I figured you'd implemented something for the admin tool already? Can't you just use the code you use for tracking to find the players hearth fire?
