Memorizing people in boats

I don't know if this is a bug or me mis-clicking, but when I'm on shore and someone is in a boat, I don't get the option to memorize them. Just the avast/open menu. I am clicking on them and not the boat. Now I have a bunch of people driving by who know my name, and I, awkwardly, have no idea who they are.

Is there a hotspot I'm missing?

It's generally difficult to click on people in boats.

it's also fairly annoying to click on people who are carrying things. You have to aim fairly high to get the context menu

right click the center of the boat or the
part where their head should be under
the boat.
