This sounds like a problem with lag. It's not a problem with your character in that case, but in the server that handles the game only using part of the bandwidth and making data packets wait. Several people have been complaining of this lately and the code gnome is working on it.

Your best bet is to perhaps log in and then wait patiently five minutes or so before you start trying to move your character. If there is still a problem with lag you might have to try logging in awhile later when there is less of a load on the server.

If you go to the home page and scroll down to the bottom it will say how many users are on at the moment. Lately we have been running over a hundred users regularly and this might be part of the cause of the lag. You could try logging on when there are fewer people on.

current version of java
current manufacturer's video card drivers
your computer's date and time set correctly

My OS is XP sp3, java version is 6 update 18, i have reinstalled drivers for video card (GeForce 8800 GTS, just in case). Time is configured correctly ...
