Can't build log house on mountain

I paved an area, selected log house and clicked where I wanted it. My toon walks as if to place a construction sign, but upon arrival a red message displays something like "Cannot build that here". I then increased the size of the paved area and tried a couple different positions for the house on the paved area, but same result. Since I've never tried to construct on a mountain, I tested the log cabin, which worked perfectly.

Can you not build a log house on a mountain for some reason or is it a bug? Has anyone else been successful at constructing a log house on a mountain?

Hmmm, I went seriously oversized with the paved area and all of a sudden, all OK. I don't know if there is a bounding box issue here or something else.
