Battering ram?

Postby Quasic » Thu Mar 18, 2010 1:23 am

Our village came into need of a battering ram.

No, we're not invading anyone, so calm down.

But it is completely unusable. We built it fine, about ten tiles from where it was needed. Glue dried next day. We tried to move it and within 3 tiles had broken. Repair, reglue, wait.

But by the time the glue dried THIS time, it had decayed. Repair, reglue, wait. (*)

(*) repeat this step for 3 days before entire village gets ill and nothing has still been battered.

I don't think that the ram is working right, because nobody could ever invade anyone unless they were away for a month; this may be intentional, but in a case of "oops too much wall" .... it is less "balancing" or "grief-reducing" and more "hair-pullingly irritating".

Possible Suggestion for Workaround: Allow the original builder of a palisade / wall (if that is recorded) to be able to destroy it (even if it takes ten pots of tea :P).

Thanks,
Quasic

The only problem I can see here, is battering rams decaying while they are drying, effectively causing them to need repairs (and drying again) immediatily after having dried.

Change it, so that battering rams that are drying don't take decay hits would solve that.

Admitted, their current movement range before breaking down is too short.

Reading back my suggestion, I see one possible problem. If battering rams cannot decay while drying, they might not be destructible either. And we DO want them destructible at all times.

So.. It should not decay while glue is drying, but players should be able to destroy it anyhow.
