repairing objects - no more hour glass

Postby DeadlyPencil » Sat Aug 07, 2010 12:45 am

seems you guys changed something with repairing.... no hourglass shows up and repair items are used up instantly.

choped up a log, went to repair a chest, then another, and all my boards were gone. which was weird since i had 6 and i didn't see the hour glass either time, i usually only repair enough to get it out of red....

chop up another log, go to repair a herb table, this time i actually pay attention with my inventory open.... 2 boards instantly disappear, no hour glasss.

this seems rather odd. my brother also said when he was repairing our wine press that boards instantly disappeared from his inventory as well with no hour glass.

Not announced, but repairing was made instant.

well i don't think so, that chest was probably badly damaged. i've repaired with 1-3 boards on chests.

The issue is that normally when you repair if an object is barely hurt .. lets say 95/100 it will still take 1 full material.

an example... if 4 ovens are hurt just barely enough to stop working and you have 20 bricks in your inventory. before you might be able to use 5 bricks on each by stopping yourself once the oven is operational. now one oven will suck all 20 bricks. so instead of 4 operational ovens u have one.

basically you cant really barely repair anything anymore.

So just carry enough materials to repair the object instead of all of them. A lot of people want to fully repair objects and this really helps out a lot.

I don't like instant repairs, they worsen the problem (see oven example).

The problem wasn't that the repair took a while (ok, it might speedup compared to the original delay) but that you have to walk to the object you want to repair (thus clicking like a madman, esp. for walls).
Now you additionally can easily mislick (eg when trying to activate a flower menu item, but end up activating repair mode because of lag) and waste good material on objects you want gone (or manipulate in different ways), since you're unable to abort the repair.

This change simplay added another layer of click-o-mania through the need to only fetch a fraction of the material each time.

Loftar, if possible: another approach please.

This helps quite a bit actually.

It just shouldn't be as long as it was before and not 'per item'. Half a second to do what it does now (take all items) would be fine.

Realistically if you don't want to repair by mistake, don't walk around clicking A->Shift+N->A, or whatever it is on your hotkey.

I can, indeed, see it being a problem to not be able to repair things partially. I guess I'll have to rethink it.
