Game crashes

Postby Ayane » Sat Sep 18, 2010 12:46 am

So i think i accidental checked "always trust this publisher" or smth, and after that the game started opening and then crushing after i log in.
I removed the check - same thing. Reinstalled java - same thing. Then i downloaded the client and it also crashes. Except it actually leaves a log and this is what it said

Re: Game crashes

Postby loftar » Sat Sep 18, 2010 5:16 am

Note that it is the Java VM itself which crashes; not the game client code. The following line indicates the root of the problem:
Ayane wrote:Stack: [0x0d420000,0x0d470000], sp=0x0d46f21c, free space=13c0d46ed50k
Native frames: (J=compiled Java code, j=interpreted, Vv=VM code, C=native code)
C [PCTBDCore.dll+0xa3b37]

In other words, the VM crashes in a DLL file call PCTBDCore.dll. A cursory search of teh Interwebz seems to indicate that that file is a virus or malware, so that's probably your problem.

Actually, the PCTBD in PCTBDCore.dll seems to stand for "PC Tools Browser Defender", so either your antivirus software is making Java crash, or your antivirus software is malware in disguise (there are a lot of those, after all).

On a side note, I'd never recommend anyone to use anti-virus software.

PC Tools is marked on McAffee as 'potential malware' so it's uneasy to tell if he downloaded 'right' pctools. Personally i prefer NOD32.

You may want to consider not using an antivirus program at all. The issue has been covered previously in this thread, the short version of which goes: You're pretty much fine as long as you don't download Russian mobile porn, and even if you were to catch a virus, formatting and reinstalling is a small price to pay for not having had to stand the A/V program in the meantime.
