Normal client crashes at startup, mod clients crash at login

What the title says. The original game client will crash with this error code right when I try to start it:
Code: Select all
java.lang.RuntimeException: java.net.SocketException: Unrecognized Windows Sockets error: 0: Cannot bind
   at haven.Session.<init>(Session.java:646)
   at haven.Bootstrap.run(Bootstrap.java:173)
   at haven.MainFrame.run(MainFrame.java:149)
   at haven.MainFrame.main2(MainFrame.java:223)
   at haven.MainFrame.access$100(MainFrame.java:34)
   at haven.MainFrame$5.run(MainFrame.java:266)
   at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)
Caused by: java.net.SocketException: Unrecognized Windows Sockets error: 0: Cannot bind
   at java.net.PlainDatagramSocketImpl.bind0(Native Method)
   at java.net.PlainDatagramSocketImpl.bind(Unknown Source)
   at java.net.DatagramSocket.bind(Unknown Source)
   at java.net.DatagramSocket.<init>(Unknown Source)
   at haven.Session.<init>(Session.java:644)
   ... 6 more

Then when I try to use Gilbertus's mod or Ender's mod, it will instead crash after I click "log in". This time, there's no error code. The windows just disappear.

I have tried the NVidia fix. Nothing works with or without it. Does anybody have any idea what's wrong here?

I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, and according to the Java console, Java 1.6.0_14-b08

This isn't exactly lost beneath a bunch of other topics, but I'm bumping because I could still use an answer

Do you have Java 64 or Java 32? The build is (usually) irrelevant. If there's a build problem, more than a random person is going to experience it. We're betting you have Java 32 and don't know it because you used Sun's auto-installer.

Easy (though less accurate) way to check: Just try running the 32-bit version of Enders and see if it works.

edit: Oh, and you might want to try updating Java. That might solve the problem. Also check your video drivers. There has been known problems before because of the use of OpenGL.

I tried running the 32-bit client, and all that happened was the console flashed up and disappeared. After that I tried to update Java, but apparently I have the latest version already.

Also, I'm not exactly sure what I'm supposed to see for my video drivers to know if they're good or not.

That can be a chore even for a techie. Best bet is to find out what card you have and go to the manufacturer's website, download the latest, and install. If you have a pre-manufactured computer like a Dell, HP, etc., then go to that companies website. They should provide a way for you to download the latest drivers if you don't know what video card you have. After rereading your initial post, I saw you had read and attempted the fix for the nVidia issues.

As an afterthought, there's one more thing you might want to check. (Don't know why I didn't ask this earlier... /facepalm) What sort of firewall or antivirus are you running? These might be blocking HnH from connecting to the server properly after attempting to log in.

I don't have my firewall up, and I don't have antivirus. Yeah, I know how that sounds, but I've been good for about a year so far, and setting up all my programs is a lot easier.

I've been trying to download new drivers that I found, but my internet is making it a bit difficult. If it helps to determine what you need to know in the meantime, it's an NVidia GeForce GT 220 that came with my Dell computer about a year and a half ago.
