dissapearing shoes

Postby ImAwesome » Mon Sep 12, 2011 6:29 am

I was wearing the shoes I started with(have since I started) then i get an icon saying thorn in the foot, I checked the wiki and noticed it said it happens when not wearing shoes, so I checked and my shoes were gone...not really a big deal I have made a few pairs of clogs so I grabbed a pair and put them on, 2-3 minutes later another thorn in the foot and again no shoes

I'd put on another pair, but not sure if they would go poof too

They're breaking. Stop getting into fights with ants and stuff. Wooden clogs have HP and when they run out of it they break, that's all. Wear bunny slippers if you never want your shoes to break again. Leather boots and such will also last really well.

I don't think new players can make good leather that can take some hits. I remember when a boar destroyed my first pair of rangers boots I made myself

Even a crappy q10 leather armor, leather pants, and leather boots set will soak up a lot of damage and reduce 100+ damage boar hits down to ~15 damage. It's not hard to make and for an ambitious newbie it is well worth the investment.

I think everyone just completely missed the fact that clogs have 0 soak and so just walking in the woods breaks them. You never see "A Thorn in the Foot" because of shoes. Doesn't mean it doesn't occur, just that you never feel the effects of it because of the shoes. Bunny slippers are just the first ones that won't break from it.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

What? My clogs have NEVER suffered from this. Also leather shoes would only be good if you have armor and pants with them.

What?!

So when using clogs, just walking their HP decreases?

You cannot acquire the status thorns in your feet while wearing shoes. If you were to get a thorn in your foot and re-equip your shoes, the game would treat it like any other damage and your armor would attempt to soak the damage, taking it to its health instead. Leather shoes are valuable in this respect as they absorb more damage and have more health so they will not only out last clogs but actually stop damage from animals and players as well.

You do not passively take damage from walking in forests if you're wearing shoes. Shoes do not wear out without taking damage from an outside source.

thanks for the advice about shoes breaking, I started carrying a 2nd pair until I could make bunny slippers...

the advice about bunny slippers is bad: I died because with bunny slippers ants hit really hard and everything I've read suggest raiding ant hills as a good way to get items for lp and they are...my lake turned out to be a swamp so running into it didn't stop the ants, just got them reinforcements from leeches

The point of bunny slippers is to never break. If you want defense you'll need sturdier equipment, such as leather.
