(Not a Bug)Bark boat

Making bark boat accepts birch bark as a brown bark. In my opinion it's a bug, since as i guess brown bark is to make a body of the boat, and birch bark to make a sails (come on, brown bark is much harder!)

BTW: Couldn't find such a topic on forum. Does noone reported this bug?

It's been mentioned before, around the start of world 5. I believe it's intentional.
Any crafting that asks for generic bark can use brown or white.
Any crafting that asks for generic leather can use regular or hard.
Any crafting that asks for a generic bough can use fir boughs or elm boughs.

It's illogical to me but well... thanks for digging up those lines.

that explains why after collecting material for 4 bark boats I only got two and had brown bark left over

If you place first into your inventory the white bark, and last the brown bark, it takes one of each.

Personally this is annoying, it is easy to get around, but with recipes that use both a particular variant and generic type of the same item class, should be modified so they don't use particular types as generics.

But what if you want to make the bark boats out of only birch bark?

Hmm, I guess that could happen. One thing though if you're not near a broadleaf forest birchbark is really expensive, especially compared to generic bark, as a tree only provides a single piece of bark (whereas every other tree gives off 2 or more generic bark). But yeah, it's just a case of the game being lazy and the player having to make considerations beforehand to counter it (in this case the recipe not checking your inventory for generic bark first before using birchbark in place of generic bark), and my idea as you so simply pointed out was a cheap lazy bad fix. ;)

Confirming that this works.

The reason it works is because the game tries to craft the most recently picked up ingredients first.
