Zigzag mining is intended. The possibility to tunnel into towns as a tactic for quick sieges is as well.

This, but even if corkscrew and zigzaging was fixed you'll still see people raiding dumb people via tunneling with supports. Only problem here is people being dumb and not understanding simple defensive procedures

True,but none would spend tons of nuggets and blocks to tunnel into ones mine.

people use rams aswell, not much less expensive and time consuming as well :roll:
and yeah, i would still dig into cavesystems, even without having an enemy behind it
