WARNING: Altering these settings technically puts your computer at a "greater risk" when running untrusted Java applications, and you do so at your OWN risk. If you share a computer or someone (including yourself) might run untrusted Java applications you need to either re-enable the security settings or inform others that these settings have been disabled.
Try tinkering with your security settings in the Java control panel since the error is specifically related to Java.
To get there go to your Windows Control Panel > Click the Java icon
(if you can't find the Java icon you need to change the 'View by:' setting in the top right from "Category" to either 'Large icons' or 'Small icons')
In the Java control panel:
Click the Advanced tab
Expand the Security node
Under the General node see if changing these options affect the problem:
-Check certificates for revocation using Certificate Revocation Lists (CRLs)
-Enable online certificate validation
These are both disabled in my Java control panel. I receive the same "unverified digital signature" warning, but when I click "Run" the program continues to execute and I do not receive the "Failed to validate certificate. This application will not be executed" message.
Hope this helps and my apologies if you've already tried this.
