Wow, i just tried h&h on a poolcomputer at our university running under Debian.
And well, had 1 frame every few secs. I dont know if its the OS or the poor hardware, but something should be done about wheatfields, as i assume they caused this(i got huuuuuuuuuge wheatfields :) )

No, that's actually normal; Java does that, but you don't really need to worry about it, because it really is 200 MBs of virtual memory, not necessarily physical. The pages involved are zero-allocated on demand, and the Java VM actually does a pretty good job at compressing the heap, so that unused pages can be reclaimed by swapping.

On the other hand, are you perhaps using Windows 7 with the built-in graphics drivers? They generally suck (since Microsoft doesn't implement OpenGL well). If you do, upgrade to the video card vendor's own drivers.

i have windows vista with built in graphics, yes.
I have updated them with card vendor's own drivers, yes.
Still no luck :(

Poor video hardware + Ubuntu will do that. Ubuntu Uses a shitton of python scripts + (Most likley) Compiz for special effects. Disabling compiz will likely help a bit but I reccomend switching to slackware or using a better machine to rid yourself of the unecessary cluttering junk Ubuntu throws in to make it idiot friendly.

@OP that sounds like some Hardware trouble what specs on your pc? Processor type & speed, ram, & video card.
