It depends how many objects are reliant on the integer code. Take hand-reared chickens for example: their quality is based on the quality of the eggs from which they hatch which is based on the quality of the seed. By altering the code to average out the quality of seeds added it could interfere with the objects that rely on the seed, which could tear a hole in the fabric of space and time. Of course, there's always a fix to it, but that takes time and effort and the devs already have a ton of work to do without working on fixing something that, although bugged, isn't technically broken.

A simple typecasting would make it chop off the decimals, no need to do much extra coding.
