The slow running today, more than the number of players, is because when we're developing, I have to run the client for testing on the server itself. We spend the developer nights at Jorb's place, and he has the server and his own computer, and I bring my laptop. Jorb's desktop computer is used by himself, and my laptop has some weird hardware bug that makes it hang when running the client on it, which leaves the server.

Let's just say that it isn't too happy with running Apache, the game server and the client all at the same time.

They run the server on the worst machine they can find, that way with this few of players they know they can handle many more players and a larger world with a better machine.

Their new machine isn't exactly a beast, and we all know how efficient the client is...

Also as I mentioned when they were talking about why they ran their p2, they could achieve that just by running a VM on a beast with restricted access to hardware and processor grunt.

In fact, if they ran a VM they could do all sorts of awesome stuff, like run their own dev server separate to the environment that we testers use

Old. They updated a while ago.

They had to stop using the old machine due to hard-ware failures, so they are now using the second worst.
