Different thread and questions. Go find out!

You won't be saying that in a week or two when you realize how many abandoned homes there are. A 30 second boat ride south of my village literally bring you to the ghetto. There's abandoned claims everywhere with the occasional newb taking things and raiders patrolling. It reminds me of Detroit.

I don't see why I would make a new thread for the same basic question. Does soil quality now play a role in affecting tree growth? I wouldn't ask if my village hadn't already started growing trees. Their quality when fully matured is not what it should be, so I am curious to know if this is the case.

i remember Loftar said that the soil q for trees should matter only when putting soil into the treeplanter's pot, but not where trees are planted. (it was yesterday or the day before on IRC, cant find the log)
so tree farming should be working the same as before, however, i am getting different results from matured trees. but i never got the right calculations for tree qualities on last world so i can never be sure. (tried a few but none fits my results.)
i hope the said bug was messing up the tree quality as well and should now be fixed, but ill have to wait till the next tree grows fully to see.

Confirmed here as well, although only 1/3 of my sample showed improvement over planted quality. Going to try again with a larger test plot.

Is it the intention for crop quality to approach soil quality and hover around that value? It seems to me that is what will happen with +5/-5 up to soil quality and +2/-5 after. If slower gains after soil quality is the intention -2/+2 would be a better fit in my opinion.

The problem with the current implementation, is that once you've got high Q seeds (Prayer of Life anyone?) soil quality becomes absolutely useless. Planting q100+ seeds? Well why bother seeking out a decent q80 soil spot to set up your farm? Just find the nearest soil patch you can and go to town. Also, because it's +2/-5, it's in your best interest to plant absolutely massive fields in order to have the best chance of getting those few raised seeds. Yeah that sounds smart.

Either make it an actual softcap where soil q plays an important role and increase in values is slowed but still possible [(farming+soil)/2], or make it a strict hardcap and allow us a way of increasing soil quality through fertilization or another new method.

As it stands the +2/-5 situation is fucking retarded and I'm just amazed that anyone would actually think it would be a decent way to integrate soil quality into farming.

- i fully second that. Reading that post i came to question: how the server does math of (-5,+2)? Does it have 50%/50% chance for positive/negative effect, and if positive it gives random from 0 to +2, when negative it gives random from -5 to 0?
Somewhy i feel it just gives out random from -5 to +2. Which in turn means that soil Ql is actually a hardcap for plants QL. ~70% chance of negaive effect occuring every harvest gives no chances to grow anything up.

Erm, this may be irritating, but maybe we should all selectively plant the seeds that are best?

At full nature, you get three chances per crop, lesser of three evils should be planted. Mind you, having q300+ plant fibres again would be good.
