Half these people don't KNOW lag. Try Ultima Online, 1997 on dial up when it took and hour and a half to get from one side of Brit bank to the other. Bah, lag my ass.....

ok so i know lag is when one walks through walls and stuff. But since the early july crash the game has been kinda shuttering, everything kinds stops and goes stops and goes. Its a little bit different then the normal lagging through walls. The shuttering makes it difficult to catch bugs. Does this sound familiar?

glad i am not the only one, i am brand new to the game, and think its great (death by thorn in the foot was funny),

but i would love to know if this 'lag' - more stutter really - stop/start when walking - is this inherent in the game at this point (re corruption mentiuoned in this post) or something to do with java generally? basically is there anything i can do my end to at least reduce the stutter, because its hard enough to learn how to get around from the start without watching your toon keep zipping back a few paces and so on

You can't do anything, it's server side. The lag is due to continuous backups being made, to prevent nukes in the future.

Thanks Potjeh, i do wonder if backing up the whole world every 30secs-5 mins (don't know the exact frequency) is strictly necessary - wouldn't once per hour be enough? loses would be minimal in the case of a complete server meltdown. although i do suppose it would effect what info has been saved when you log out/connection drop out/game crash.

Well, at least H&H is Great enough for this little problem not to put me off

it is not backing up world every 30sec, it is remote RAID HDD.
it is syncronizing every XX sec and transfering changes.
if sync time will be extended - tranferring will extend too.
do you want to wait 30 min every 2 hours?

I haven't played recently, but there were significant lag spikes ever since loftar got a new server.
