alpha stage could be excuse only for a few months, not 4ever.

This is also true but with three swedish uni going dudes (kaka[sound], jorb[programmer] and loftar[Art and graphics]) I personnaly think this is a feat on its own :P. From reading around etc I think haven and hearth were set up (website) in 2007 and later game developed in 2009? Correct me if I am wrong please.
I'm sure the game will Launch off properly a year after these guys are done at uni :P. A game like this has a fair bit of potential but to all those in love with it now cross your fingers and hope it wont be a MP2P :/...

It's pretty much an excuse till they feel like developing it past alpha. This isn't some big company that actually has to meet deadlines. They can work on the game whenever they want and for as long as they want.

You don't really understand the game yet. Yes, you'll permadie a lot, but that's just how it works, even top dogs can't escape the reaper forever. Thing is, it's not really about having your character live forever. The real focus is the development of your settlement, and characters are expendable (but not throwaway due to their high cost) assets used to advance your settlement. Losing a highly developed character is equivalent to losing a battlecruiser in Starcraft - sure it stings, but if your main base is intact you can usually bounce back. Losing a character that dies to a boar in two hits is like losing a zergling, though.

You're right that the game is broken as there's no legit way to destroy a properly protected settlement, but that's what you get for playing an unfinished game. The devs are working on a proper siege system, but it's slow going because it's a big feature and they don't have much time because they have to put Salem, their commercial project, first.

You seem to have a bit of a bad habit with just reading the first message/post... read the whole thread then comment lol.

Yes it can. As its not only a possible indication your dealing with some fress new code product that still can/will contain superficial (graphics or the crashing kind) or worse bugs/issues. But its also a indication that its a work in constant testing progress/mode. Like the fact that game(or application for that matter) behaviors can change at will. (whether a world reset is needed or warranted for that in inconsequential in relation to this.)
Besides: Its a Dev's prerogative to do so ... and its fits perfectly with the way HnH is developed.
