Maybe I should chime in...
The boat bug is unfortunate. It should be fixed. We've known about it for a long while, but its not entirely trivial to fix it (according to loftar). It will be fixed. I don't know when.
I have decided not to resurrect kLauE. Partly because the bug has been known for a long time, and partly because kLauE had clearly put himself in harm's way in the first place. I was actually surprised when he told me he didn't know about the bug.
Some people might see this decision as a breach of principle: You die to a bug, you get your char back, but I think we all know that no situation is ever really that clear cut, and that, in cases like this, it always comes down to making a call. It is not possible to formulate rules that ensure 100% predictability in the outcome of any given application of them. We try as best we can to make decent rulings, and we try to be guided by principles.
With regards to client modifications that make houses transparent: We can't do anything about it. You can cry exploit and cheat all you want, and I would be tempted to chime in with you. I am tempted to say the same about people who disable the lightmask. But we can't do anything about it. Once data has left our server, we no longer have any control over it, and any client can do with that data whatever it wishes, including rendering it however it wishes. We can't stop that. (We could perhaps try to enforce some sort of police state regimen for the game, ala many commercial developers, but... nah.)
The only thing I can say about modifications like that is that I don't like them. My statement to that effect is not worth anything more than anyone else's.
If I were playing this game for hardcore srs bzns pvp, I'd be using a modified client as well.
