Connection Problem

Postby mattym14 » Wed Aug 11, 2010 1:46 am

Okay something is messed up. When I load Haven, everything loads fine, no problems, no lagging. When I'm brought to my character screen. I click my character, I CANNOT log in ''Where you Logged out" I can ONLY log in using "At Your Hearthfire". That being said, once I log in. I CANNOT move, when I right click things such as my crops, nothing comes up. I cannot open ANY menus EXCEPT the Log out menu. What the hell is going on?

there is something preventing you from logging in at where you were last at.

and your crop's aren't ready to be harvested if nothing pops up

Probably need to update java ?

That's not it at all. This has been going on for a week. All of my crops are fully grown, I assure you. What could possibly be preventing me from moving? I'll try updating Java though.

I see in the logs that your session times out, as well, so you probably have a bad connection to the server for one reason or another (it shouldn't be laggy right now). For some reason, the packets from your client don't reach the server.

Are you running a BitTorrent client or something, perchance?

It may be my internet. It's been on and off really laggy. I'm pretty sure it's due to my old Ethernet Cable. Perhaps getting a new one will solve my internet problems. I just thought it was odd that I was able to login but not be able to do anything.

It is a bit odd, to be sure, but it could just be that once logged in, the server starts sending data to the client, which, on a bad half-duplex connection, could prevent your own packets from getting out.

Okay. I just tried a new ethernet cable. It did nothing. The weirdest thing is. My internet works fine with just surfing the web. And even the other online game I play. I'm stumped. D:

Forgot to mention. Sometimes ''Log in at Hearthfire" doesn't even work. It just sits there at the login screen.

To be honest, though, just surfing the web won't show many problems, since HTTP is such a very lightweight protocol until you do heavy file-hauling over it.

I looked up your IP address from the logs and tried tracing it back from the server, and I'm sorry to say that your connection does, indeed, suck. The RTT increased by about 400-700 ms over the last link (the one between your ISP's router and your computer/router). If your link really is idle, then that is unbelievably bad (though given the problems you described, I'd have expected rather severe packet loss, too; but that was only at about 2.5%).

Are you really sure that you don't have a BitTorrent client running or something? It's the only explanation I could find reasonable. If you don't, you should probably call your ISP and complain.
