After some time of inactivity I wanted to check all the updates, but when I tried to run the game it sent me an application error.

Update your client.
W3 - Apolion, Terricieil (old & new), Westedge & Saltmummys other place.
W4 - Quahog
W5 - Yggdrasil (now gone) - New Yggdrasil.

it depends on your os, but basically you go to java settings or java preferences or java control panel (something like one of those, anyway, not sure of the exact name & it varies with different os) and look for a button that says clear java cache or possibly just clear cache.
