Boat building skill cause crash and unrecoverable character

With two separate characters (same account) when I take the boat building skill, the sound plays, then the game freezes, I waited for a long time the second time before forcing the program to close by ending the java process.

Upon attempting to log back in with the same character the loading screen comes up 'loading' everything behind it is black, the HUD is there, but it is frozen, can do nothing whatsoever.

This happens whether I use log in where I logged out, OR at my HF. It makes no difference to the situation.

My graphics card drivers are up to date. I downloaded the game a day ago.

I can log in using the same account, but a different chracter (who hasnt taken the boat building skill) just fine, and everything works perfectly.

No. I am using the standard system. I just registered, and hit the play button!

well, i guess first check if its your computer or the game. so try and log in from a different computer. if its just your computer, id try updating your java, and if that doesn't work, download gilbertus's client which can be found on the ideas forum and try that instead.

I have already described a similar (maybe the same) problem and still found no solution.

Well, I just managed to log into the game using a different PC, so, it appears its something to do with my setup. No idea what though.

Back on my laptop and it wont log me in. Also, I took wheelmaking while on the other machine, and now I cant log into my character again.... same bug as with boatbuilding it seems. Very strange.

I have tried the standard client, and Gilbertus's client.
Havent tried Pachos, because I cant find the link to download it.

I've jut tried to load the default client on a Mac, and I cant log into my character which has the wheelmaking skill from that either..... this is very odd.

How much data does haven and hearth download typically? is it constantly pulling in large amounts? my connection is pretty poor, this could be the problem perhaps?

Anyone know if these two skills would cause it to need to download more data and therefore slow down (immensely...) the speed at which the game gets from the loading screen to the actual game?

Seems this has been talked about in a few other threads.

Dont understand fully but its something to do with fragmented packets being dropped.

Thing is, I use a mobile internet dongle, not a router, so there are no settings for me to change or anything....

It's really weird that it only happen when I take those skills though.
