Prospecting bugged...?

Postby Haba » Fri Jan 14, 2011 10:51 am

...or is this a feature?

Sometimes, when you prospect, you get the 'ol familiar pie chart arrow. So when you follow the arrow and prospect again in the direction indicated, instead of another arrow or even the "appears to be" message, you get no minerals found. What gives? Is this a bug or are you just screwing around with us poor prospectors again?

I got high-ass exploration and good quality rustroot, so issue is not about the rr range.

Ok, sorry. I will check this site out, looks promising and I need the education to be honest.

Anyways, would it be possible for you to provide some more specifics? Quality of rustroot?

You are just walking a little too far perhaps? It's a lot more tedious than it used to be.

You need to build a minehole there. The construction sign is not placed automatically.

Jesus Christ, guys read what I wrote in the op?

It is q30 rustroot extract. I've already located 20 mines, I know how the minehole placing mechanic works. I am not walking too far, instead it may well be the case of walking too little. And that's the bug I am suspecting.

It may be obvious but I'll give a shot. Maybe you are walking in wrong direction? You should go in direction where wider end of "pie" is.

...

Yeah, I've played the game since 2009, and prospected about 20 mines this world. No, I am not walking in the wrong direction. Even if I did, it still should show another arrow, since it is with the rr range.

Prospecting is not 100% reliable. I think I know of a way to make the results more reproducible, though, so I'll try implementing that soon.

While prospecting in the caves I often get some "phantom" pie-chart circle with no actual pointer. Is this a bug? Maybe relating to some other layer? Or is it just broken in the caves?
rr extract used is around q25. Any idea what am I doing wrong?
