Downloading the client

Postby Robertas35 » Fri Feb 04, 2011 10:33 am

When I try to download the client from the web, I get this

<jnlp spec="1.0+" codebase="http://www.havenandhearth.com/java/" href="haven.jnlp">

<information>
<title>Haven and Hearth</title>
<vendor>Seatribe</vendor>
<homepage href="http://www.havenandhearth.com/"/>
<description>The Haven game</description>
<icon href="icon.gif"/>
<icon href="splash.gif" kind="splash"/>

<shortcut online="false">
<desktop/>
<menu submenu="Haven and Hearth"/>
</shortcut>
</information>

<security>
<all-permissions/>
</security>

<resources>
<j2se version="1.5+" max-heap-size="256M"/>
<jar href="haven.jar"/>
<jar href="haven-res.jar"/>
<property name="haven.errorhandler" value="on"/>
<property name="haven.defserv" value="moltke.seatribe.se"/>
<property name="haven.fullscreen" value="off"/>
<extension name="jogl" href="http://www.havenandhearth.com/java/jogl/jogl.jnlp"/>
</resources>
<application-desc/>
</jnlp>

Make sure you have java installed

next go in firefox and go to tools -> options menu

Than click the "Application" tab

scroll down and ensure this line looks like this

Image

(Java Webstart)

if it doesn't the file that is "Webstart" for java is javaws.exe will be in your java directory

I'm also having a problem, when I download the client, it downloads as a .file, and when manually using java to open it, it displays "cannot find message file" Nothing even remotely similar happened in world 3...

Posting here because it covers my problem, and I haven't found a solution anywhere else.

I have the exact same problem from the first post. Click the button to download, and instead get a page full of mess with no result. I've downloaded Java and fully updated it to the latest version, done what Kinky suggested in his post, and I've tried to download the game client in IE, Firefox, and Chrome, all with no success and the same page result.

I'll pose a side question here as well related to this: Do you need to download the main client to use a modified client? I was originally trying to get Ender's client working, and then assumed that it wasn't because I didn't have the official client installed. If I can get it working without downloading the official game client, then it isn't as important to fix the problem getting the main client.
