Recently found an iron vein near our settlement, bought all the relevant skills (metal working, basic mechanics, heck even prospecting and yeomancy) Yet when i remove the bars from the smelter no new recipies unlock.
This is obviously quite the setback as i would like to start cranking out iron stuff ASAP, so am i missing something here? I do not even get the option to smelt nuggets.

I am having a similar problem with carpentry.
I have all the basic skills (lumberjack, carpentry blah blah blah), but I cant build a house or a plow or anything.

You made blocks and boards yet? For a house you need to have taken some boughs too.
