do you see boarda and blocks?
and, do you have foraging and carpentry?

This issue is usually exclusively because you have not discovered all of the necessary materials to construct the object. The rest of the time it's because you haven't bought the necessary skills yet. If the straw hit the ground instead of your inventory, you didn't discover it. Picking it up won't discover it.

Sometimes there is a bit of lagg after you've first unlocked things and it'll take a bit before the recipe becomes available. Restarting your client often helps.

Straw and plant fibers always drop to the ground. The credit for these are supposed to occur when the plant is harvested.
