Can't stake a claim on the area around the ladder or on the mined out grey tile and you also can't pave on either.

It's not the paving I care about, it's the claim I want to put down. I only mentioned paving since at least on cave tile you have to pave to place the stake claim, but you can do neither on both of the other underground tilings.

Surely, you can just dig a tile out and stake the claim from there?

Confirming this. Most objects seem to be buildable on mined out tiles, but claim stakes are not. I keep getting the "You cannot build that there." message.

EDIT: Also roundpole fences for some reason. :? :?:
