Zig Zag Mining

Is this supposed to be as stated? I've got griefers Zig zagging in attempt to get into my mine and then raid my house. If its a bug, when will it be fixed?

I don't think I've seen Jorb or Loftar mention anything about this, though I'm sure they are aware of it.

It might be a way to circumvent the use of mining supports, yes, but I think it also adds an interesting twist to underground warfare. Next time build walls.

Edit: Well I guess it's true that unless you lived in a cave you probably couldn't surround your mine hole with a wall until recently so I guess in this case there was nothing you could do.

I have walls, To prevent people from getting in on the outside. You can't really block a cave entrance since it will just spam "Cant be placed there" Or not enough clearance. I thought about putting a gate ON the outer cave entrance but they might just spawn outside it anyway. +1 for the greifers I guess.

Jorb on Jan 31st wrote:sabinati reported the same thing. The problem with the corkscrew mining pattern is that it actually was pseudo-intended for exploratory mining and whatnot. The russians reported it quite a while ago themselves. We'll see what if anything we do about it. Awesome to hear that tunnel combat is actually happening! :D

Jorb wrote:Ah, no harm in reporting it. You probably have a point in that we should post better change logs. At least some time after the release.

by "pseudo-intended" i can only assume that he means this was a dev "easter egg"

I believe you can wall off cave entrances if you wall it 5 tiles past where you can behind tiling, so that you can pave the entirety of the line without obstruction, then extend the wall so that it covers the gap over the mined out tiles. I apologize if that explanation wasn't very clear, I was looking for a screenshot someone posted of 'Boarmurdered' where they produced a trade depot like that but couldn't find it.

I've been searching for the same pic and can't remember where I saw it. Makes it a huge pain to get a ram in there, though not impossible.

Here's the Boarmurdered gate. I did eventually get around to fixing the typo in "Magma".

ZOMG!! thankyou!!thankyou!!thankyou!!thankyou!!thankyou!!thankyou!!thankyou!!

I laughed soo hard at that runestone. The SA Dwarf Fortress game journal of "Boatmurdered" is probably one of the best things on the net in a lot of years.

That might not due in OP's case though.. that wall is built at the entrance of a cave, where you can't mine the black tiles. From my understanding, OP just happens to have a mine hole inside his palisade. If that's not the case, what's show in the picture really is the best choice.

If you do have a minehole in your palisade, you could have made a palisade around the mine hole (on the surface) before you made it. Unless things have changed, you always come out at the same spot.

You are correct. You can also just wall off the area underground if you're willing to dig out a little bit.
