bark type for barkboat bugged

I have a small tree farm with all kind of trees, and when making tbarkboat i have some bugs. It seam the bark type is bugged or something, i can do a boat with 2 birchbark, but can't with 2 brown bark, and when i mix brown and white bark it seam to not always work as it should. Now i just make them with white bark only to avoid problem, but i don't think that how it was meant to work.

It's based on the positioning of the birch bark in the inventory. It checks for regular bark first from the bottom right most bark in your inventory and then checks for birch bark second after that. This is where the issue comes in as people place the birch bark after the regular bark and so the birch gets loaded as the regular bark.

I thought recipes used items based on the order they entered your inventory, not their position?

So in cases where they might conflict, collect the recipe materials in the order listed by the recipe.

this is correct. what enters your inventory last gets used first.
