Boat attack bug/hack

Postby dreadlus » Fri Apr 29, 2011 8:06 am

Hey J&L,

Today I was doing my usal foraging route on my boat when I saw a new face rowing around near me. That guy didnt mean good, unfortunately, as he started attacking me from his boat using melee attack. That, ofc, wouldnt have been a problem, if had the chance to defend myself.

Problem was he used some sort of hack to lock me out of the game as he attacked me. The game just froze on me when he did. I was using the vanilla client as I havent felt like downloading ender's on my laptop yet.

Needless to say when I managed to log back in I was dead and he was moving my stuff already.

Hope this gets some attention.

That was the first thing i thought when it happened, although it was not lag. Game literally froze, couldnt even use menus (u can still use some when it lags).
Besides the timing was too precise to be just a random thing.

SO I'm thinking its either a bug that makes the player's client freeze if someone else starts attacking his boat with him on it, or it is a hack.

Did you see a bunch of frogs on the floor when you came back?

Dropping an inventory of frogs automatically with ender's will make you lag so hard your balls with freeze.

You wouldn't have to be, he would have to be.

Hum, really? Well he did have the time to pick em up while i couldnt log back in, but anyway that seems unlikely.

Btw some extra info. I was picking up some mussels when the guy approached me. First he stopped a bit away from me, then he moved in my direction and put his boat right against mine. I thought he was doing it to mask his aiming, so i moved in another direction. He came towards me again and started attacking my boat, as I heard the sound of it getting destroyed (tree chopping sound).

And that was when the game froze on me.

I am aware of no such client bug, and I see no way to debug it post facto, unfortunately. If it happens to anyone, I would be glad if you could provide a thread dump (if you run a custom client from an open console, a thread dump can be obtained by pressing Ctrl+Backslash in the console; if you run the default client or any other client without an open console from which it was launched, a thread dump can be obtained by using Sun's jconsole or jvisualvm tools). If anyone has any more information on such a bug, I guess that might be helpful.

Could use some more info on how to get a thread dump when running a client without an open console =|
