Can't earn LP!!!

I can still earn LP through curiosities and discovering things in the wild, like nuts and dandelions and what not if I haven't discovered them before. I can't earn LP by making anything though. I thought that some of the things I was making didn't earn LP but I made a Quern for the first time, which the wiki specifically says earns LP, and I didn't get any!!! Is this a known bug? Or do Querns actually not give LP for the first time?
