hard lockups when playing HnH

Postby sthalik » Mon Jun 06, 2011 2:13 am

Hey,

I have a pretty neat rig set up (i7 2600-K, 8 GB of RAM, Radeon HD 6970) with adequate cooling. Yet, randomly, every now and then playing the game causes the PC to just hang. I've played games that are actually resource-intensive (Crysis 2 or The Witcher 2 comes to mind), yet none of these cause such symptoms. My OS is Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate SP1, Catalyst drivers are up to date, even installed latest hotfixes out of desperation.

When the lockup occurs, the sound buffer content repeats itself over and over and neither Numlock nor the mouse cursor responds. Strangely enough, the cursor becomes double its size during the hang. I don't get any crashdumps, nor is there a black screen.

Oh, and I'm using latest Ender's client.

I'm not completely sure whether this would cut it, but it should.

will a mod please move this to the bugs section?
loftar: New hair styles? Really? Seeing how Jorb never gets off his lazy ass to draw some, I almost want to add them to the game proper.

A bug? Where? In HnH? I don't think so. Most probably either in Windows or the ATI Catalyst driver itself. So it hardly qualifies for the bug section.

Lol, dude. That's server lag.

edit: Welcome to H&H buddy, you'll learn to get used to it or quit.

@sthalik

some ppl solved it by setting AA to "use application settings" in CCC

(viewtopic.php?f=4&t=19355)

also i'd like to ask if you tried to play Brink and how it ran ( as it is a OGL game) - Crysis2 and Witcher2 are DX games...

then there should be a 11.6 very soon (Gigabyte already issued an Oem 11.6 RC2 one for a mainboard integrated amd vga sadly not useable for yours)

In case NumLock is dead too then windows went *poof*, it's a hardware or driver issue since H&H shouldn't be able to freeze your rig.

Maybe a Sandy Bridge issue, that is what you get when you buy from a company who knopwingly ships faulty products.

The one-liner doesn't help either, the game crashes just the same.

I get this same exact issue. Running an i7-920, 12GB of RAM, and a Radeon HD 6950 running Win7 64-bit Ultimate. The mouse cursor doubles in size and whatever sound is playing repeats over and over.

I have played Brink with no problems at all. AA setting is set to that currently.
