Carpentry?

Postby Blaze » Sat Sep 12, 2009 8:27 am

I recently doubled my carpentry skill, but I seem to be making the same quality boards as I did before.
Wooden crafts are also pretty much the same quality.
Blocks of wood also seem to turn out quality 10, regardless of the axe used to make them.

So what DOES carpentry affect?

You have to remember to take into account the quality of the trunk you got the wood from.

Carpentry is the Max quality you can produce of the wood right?

I think the problem is really the material used, in this case its because all the trees are q10.
I had to use a q88 saw to just get q29 boards.
But I'm not exactly sure what's going on with the blocks.

Again, the new skill values (at least when used by crafting recipes) only take effect when they are lower than the quality the crafted item would otherwise have gotten (in which case its quality rating is the average of the skill value and the rating it would have been if it weren't for the skill value).

It does strike me, though, that the Carpentry value currently doesn't affect the making of boards, which it can certainly be argued that it should. Among the things it currently affects are shields, buckets, clogs and cheese trays. (Shields and buckets currently ignore their quality. I don't know if bucket quality might make sense at some point, but shield quality most certainly will, sooner or later.)

If it means anything, I'm sawing q36 boards with a q134 bone saw.
