Can't cook or build a Herbalist Table

The cooking option under craft doesnt appear at any time, even when i rightclick on a fire. Likewise I just picked up plant lore, but I don't get the option to build a herbalist table.

Discoveries. Read the wiki and the newbie guide. Basically you have to have discovered the materials from their most basic form to get the recipe to show in the menu.

Ah that makes sense. Me and my friend are playing together and he butchered the meat, not me. That'd be why I can't cook it.
