Game doesn't launch

Postby Olkaml » Fri Aug 05, 2011 1:54 pm

I've been playing about a week now and apart from the lag freezes generally not had any trouble running the game. Last night however I was out on a boating adventure with a friend when my minimap started not loading, only certain sections would with the others a beige square that occasionally loaded if I stopped and waited for a minute. This got worse when we ran into a raft that I couldn't actually see but my friend could, it just didn't load. Then I got an error message saying "An error has occured! connecting to server..." and the game froze.
Now everytime I try to load it it says this

If anyone has any idea how to fix this it'd be greatly appreciated!

Running it on Snow Leopard
(one of the reasons I want to get it working again, barely any decent games work without bootcamp normally. DON'T TAKE FUN AWAY FROM ME STEVE JOBS!!!!! :x )

"Operation timed out" means just that: It's trying to communicate with the server, but the connection is either nonexistent or so slow that it just gives up. Either something blocks your connection to HnH, or as your post seems to imply, your connection with the server just isn't good enough to play.

Next time invest in a REAL PC? :P just kidding! I love Macs. They're fun to work with and (usually) fewer bugs. Programming on them is a breeze compared to PCs (except I don't like Objective C). However, when you only got a small share of the marketplace, I'll stick with what everyone else is using.

Some things to check when this occurs:

Web home page. Is the server up or down?

Your internet connection. Are you having trouble with other sites? Try to ping the HnH server and see if you're getting a response and if there's any problems in the connection path.

Is anything on your computer suddenly blocking you from connecting to the server? Someone turn on a net nanny program? Update to an AV or firewall blocking things?

but it was running fine up until this, then the error then nothing. I thought it'd could've been poor connection but it was seemingly fine before, and as far as I know I haven't changed anything :/

haha macs are only good for having fun, unless that fun involves games then you're screwed :P
in terms of the server, its up for me and (when it goes down like last night) I can still see all the front page updates

Other sites are fine, nothing out of the ordinary and I tried a couple of other java games and they seemed to work

I had a look on my firewall preferences, it's allowing the connection and doesn't say much other then it doesn't trust it. It's just annoying because it seemed like an in game error with the "haven has errored" pop up and has just died on me

EDIT: The results of the ping test

That's the web server, though, not the game server. Try moltke.seatribe.se, the server listed in the custom clients to connect to.

100% packet loss. It's a connection problem between you and the server, completely unrelated to the game client or the server software.

I just don't understand how it could go from fine to complete and utter death over the course of ten minutes and 1 error. Any ideas? or am I just screwed until Salem/I go and steal a real laptop.
