Not the map edge as I've seen hearthling activity. Every now and then, it just doesn't let me walk or boat through a square. Any cause, or way around (not literally, ha ha ha etc).

Those areas are "nuked zones". They're portions of the map (1000x1000 tiles) which got wiped out during a period when the servers had file corruption issues.
