Client crash on startup

Postby polobow » Tue Oct 11, 2011 8:44 pm

Whenever i open the file to go to H&H, it crashes, giving me this:

Code: Select all
java.lang.RuntimeException: java.net.SocketException: Socket operation on nonsocket: timeout in datagram socket peek
   at haven.Session$RWorker.run(Session.java:419)
Caused by: java.net.SocketException: Socket operation on nonsocket: timeout in datagram socket peek
   at java.net.PlainDatagramSocketImpl.peekData(Native Method)
   at java.net.DatagramSocket.receive(Unknown Source)
   at haven.Session$RWorker.run(Session.java:412)

Does anyone know what this error means, and how i can fix it?

It's some sort of network error. Some things to check:

1. Are you properly connected to the internet (not an issue if you launched from the play button on the website)?
2. Are there any antivirus, malware, or firewall programs running that might block a Java app?
3. Are you being blocked by your ISP on certain sockets, etc? (Hasn't been an issue in the past that I'm aware, but you never know when something like this will come up because Loftar has been messing with the code.)

These are the things that come to mind right away. It'll take some research to dig up other possible answers.

Aai, network problems. It's kinda hard to explain that in my case, i guess.

I have a sort of wireless sender as USB, which is plugged in my computer. It connects to internet-thingy 2 rooms next to me. That internet-thingy has a cable from the internet-thingy to our actual internet case.

I'm not sure how to solve these problems.

1. I am connected to the internet, since i clicked play on the site.

2. AFAIK not, however i might scan it if there are no other solutions. The program is not being blocked by my firewall.

3. I have no idea what you are talking about...

Often times you have to explicitly allow programs to be allowed through a firewall. However, since you said it wasn't anything on your computer I'll trust that.

I'm not the world's greatest at troubleshooting without getting hands-on. Odds are there's something between you and the server blocking or closing a connection. I'm assuming you're on a legitimate connection somewhere like college, an office, school, etc. My best suggestion would be to get someone locally to check on it. If it's not a legitimate connection, you might just be on your own. There is also the possibility that something server side is triggering this by closing the connection unexpectedly, however others should be getting this problem, too.

I have no knowledge of connections and ports. I am still living at home.

I think i'll wait for other responses, maybe they'll hopefully shine some light on this problem.

Thanks for responding so quickly and detailed!
