It is slow because they need a better server, nothing to do with your computer.

go to the bottom of the page and click this

give about $3000 and you will see the game speed up.

Big donations probably aren't going to solve the problem. From what I recall in the past, if there's been an something they (Jorb and Loftar) could use, but just can't put together, they've usually said so. (They got an UPS donated to them to help with server outages at one point.) The issue here is time. They don't have it. HnH is in a "maintenance only" mode right now because of the development time needed for Salem. With that said, I'm all for donating to any indie devs. Some of them do their work in their free time while working half or 3/4 time jobs, others give themselves to the art and don't work at all and live off the donations.

And yes, the issue could very well be with the server, but the issue could very well be with the client computer, too. The game uses JOGL, which is one several OpenGL implementations for Java. Not all video drivers support OpenGL properly. If you're going slow, you might want to check with your card manufacturer about the issue(s). (As a note, I have several Java and OpenGL games I run great with, but HnH just craps out on me constantly, and there is no newer video driver for my card to fix any problems.)
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
