I was tracking someones hearthfire but the scent pointed different directions and had different pie values each time.

That happens when you use different scents pointing to different people for different crimes.

its just one scent. It seems be to working correctly now though.

It is possible the hearthfire was moved then. Also, different angles can look like different sizes. Equipment that alters your perception or exploration skill will also change the pie size.
