Circumventing the theft skill

I found an abandoned village with large holes in their wall. With Criminal Acts turned off, I couldn't do anything other than walk onto the village claim which shows that it still had enough authority to prevent theft. The only black skill I currently have on this current character I used to experiment with was trespassing.

I found an anvil nearby and I picked it up and brought it over to the edge of the claim. I couldn't walk off the claim with it in my hands, since the claim prevented me from doing so. I brought my boat over to the anvil, close enough to be able to touch it but not close enough to be on the claim.

With the anvil in my hands, I put it inside my boat, and then I was able to take my boat with the anvil still inside.

I basically stole something without having the Theft skill. I didn't have Ranging so I couldn't see whether or not I left a theft scent or not and I haven't tried this with personal claims.

Also forgive me if this was already discovered, since my search results didn't find anything close to what I found.

Ya, this is a known bug. Still very frustrating all the same.

Darn... I was hoping I found something game-breaking enough to earn me a cape.

The funny thing is I think this bug was discovered around the time you started playing

Dunno when he started but it was found around the first 4 months of world 5. Never did personally try it out.

Well I meant the circumvention of the theft skill using trespassing in general, it's quite an old bug. I am not sure of when the method he used was discovered but you may be right.

I started playing back in World 2. I was a little newbie that was adopted by the village of Swampcrazed. Good times.
