Disappearing cow and milk

Postby Shimrod » Mon Apr 02, 2012 12:44 pm

When I ported into my village some fifteen minutes ago, I heard a 'moo'. Now generally, this means a cow has mated or has been slaughtered. I did leave a bull with one of the cows, but I left them together overnight so the mating should have been over and done with. Curious, I head over to the pens to see what this is all about, only to find that one of my cows has disappeared. The cow I milked not ten minutes before, completely gone. Moreover, there is no trace of a corpse, or blood indicating the slaughter of a corpse anywhere in or around the village.

Does anyone have any idea what happened? Was it just an unlucky port in that the two cows spawned into one another?

Also, milk seems to be disappearing from one of the barrels, in very regular quantities: 2x 3.3 l & 1x 3.4 l for a grand total of exactly 10 l in three days time. The other villagers don't know anything about it and whatever happens to it, leaves no scents I can detect with ~4200 per*exp. Furthermore the barrel is not damaged, as it cannot be repaired so it probably isn't leaking.

Can anybody shed some light on this?

we've had cows port over to village idol before, last world we thought it was some bug cause the cr where animals are was close to them, but this world same thing happened before a cr was even close to them. so we find them occasionally roaming around village idol area. also some mate outside the fences/palisades/bw is theyre close to them.

as for milk..if theres a calf close they will drink whatever milk is close by in barrels

2-3 cows of mine have teleported outside the walls, nobody from the village has the keys but still, they appear outside, they were full grown cows and one was calf.

There is a calf around, so the disappearing milk is probably caused by it. Thanks guys (Gals?) :)

The nearest palisade to where the disappeared cow was is ten tiles away and internal, meaning it still can't leave the village.

Well, calves can drink milk from a barrel if u put the barrel near them. Also, when new calves are born they can spawn past walls. Can't explain how actual cows would port around

When they mate they sometimes have trouble finding room after disengaging, so a cow could end up quite a way away from where the mating took place.

We had a calf spawn outside the wall once when the cow had twins. I also think when the cows mate they can be displaced through walls as well.

its more fun to think that the cow hated the bull so much that she had to port away from the unmannered bull :P
my cow once ported 3 screens away and made a thread here worrying if the bull ate the cow.
