So, my character is starting out and I'm trying to get as many discoveries as possible. I've gone through most of the trees in a broad leaf forest when I encounter a mud flat. I think, "Oh, I bet you get a special kind of dirt here" and dig on the mudflat. In this case, based on the wiki, you get acre clay from mudflats. By that logic, acre clay is crashing my game.

Try re-downloading the client or use enders.

It sounds like you are also experiencing a crisis which has been spreading like the bubonic plague on this game. See the thread below:
