Map blank

My mini map is blank all it shows is the red X for where i am but when i walk in my house it's just fine. Anyone else have this problem?

Yes, you're going to have this problem a lot. I've stopped having it now that i've upgraded my client, but i'm assured there's already a thread for this, and plenty too.

Map doesn't load fast enough sometimes.

how do you update the client? I just run it on the web auto-magically. I can't seem to find much on this issue.

you can't update the default client - in the post prolly the Ender client was meant:
