Every time I try to go into fullscreen it goes black and doesn't respond after that.

Go full screen before you pres anything, also try expanding the window and not pressing the enlarge button.

This is untrue.

Default client cannot go full screen, it will always cause your screen to go black. If you use one of the custom clients available in the Wizard's Tower, such as Ender's client, then you can full screen your game without crashing it.

But I go full screen with the default client all the time and it never makes my screen go black...

You are one of the rare few then and are more of an exception rather than the norm. It is good that it does work for some people though.

Full screen as in "full screen exclusive" as it's known in proper parlance--Window occupies entirety of the graphics card operations with control over things such as resolution and such. This is what the default client does and has compatibility issues in OpenGL and Java. (Believe it's just HnH, though, as I know of other Java/OpenGL games that do it just fine.)

Compare to a maximized window, which merely means the window size is set to equal the desktop size, which HnH does not do by default.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
