This bull won't mate with any of the cows, I haven't had any calfs in over 5 days.

Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

Ok fine, serious answer.
Was you bull brought over from another area with females also? Or did you drag it pass any females not in that breeding pen as you were bringing the bull to its current location. Sometimes the bull (even on rope) can try to mate with another cow within range.
So maybe (Since we don't know wat u did prior to this) your current bull is already fixated on another female not inside the breeding pen and is trying to reach her.
