Windows 8 Problems with Haven

Postby Lalachaos » Sat Aug 31, 2013 4:11 pm

I've recently switched to a new Win8 laptop, and I am unable to play Haven and Hearth on it. I have downloaded Java version7 update25 from Java's website, however I am unable to launch the autohaven.jnlp file. It always comes up with the errors below. Could anyone please help me out, or is there another Windows8 version of the client I should download?

Thank you very much.

Is it possible to launch Haven with the normal client? Enders doesn't allow me to manage my claim, and I have no idea how to open Enders in safe on a Windows8. Thanks for the reply though.

Wrong forum.

This isn't a Win8 problem. Your system didn't get the proper files in the download or a file became corrupted. Following aghmed's advice should clear any of this up (or produce a different error). If you're dead set on using the default client, I can dig up the solution out of the Bugs forum (give me a bit to do it... just woke up).

If you haven't ever used the original client, trust me, you don't want to. Did you patch Enders as instructed in his thread? You generally don't run programs in safe mode other than diagnostic and repair utilities. (This could be why you can't open the client to begin with.)

Just an FYI, Java apps are cross platform. The same code will run on an Apple, Windows, Linux, or any other OS that has a properly implemented version of Java. (If there isn't a compiled .jar file to download, it would require the user to download the source code and compile it, though.)

Did you even read the OP?

I'm very sorry for posting this on the wrong forum, but I wasn't sure whether this was a big or not. I usually play in the Enders client, however I use the original to manage my claim as it is much simpler. I'd just like to know whether it is required for me to launch original client before using Enders, but I can't even launch, which is what worried me. Thank you for the reply, will try using Enders.

Make sure to patch Enders. There's an old bug that was addressed with a patch a long time ago, but the main download wasn't updated. No, you dont need to run the original client first.

I read the OP Magic, I was playing with him. Is your firewall blocking Java from downloading? Also if you're using AVG, it doesn't work well with Java Web Start.

might help with running default client - autohaven.jnlp:
http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/win8_faq.xml

With all the security flaws and exploits for Java Browser plugin there where some fixes in different OSses like win8 or later MacOsX that also might cause troubles with Java Web Start Launcher files (jnlp) - i guess that's why there's trouble getting the jogl files downloaded (which are included in Ender for windows OS), stored in Cache and load from there...

Ender claim management fix:
download the update (06.04.12) and unpack into Ender folder (overwrite when asked)

So I have been gone for a rather long time, and come back with a new computer running Win8...
Leaving the Win8 bashing aside; I am having some difficulties running Both the native client and Enders Client. Hell I even tried the CCLauncher. No dice.

When I try to run Enders client: Nothing. The program (sometimes) can be seen opening and closing, like there is no wait command anywhere in it.. I know that is not right. Just "open, close, glad you had fun."

Now with the native client; the one at the top of the page... (I also tried the down loadable version.)
Application Blocked by Security Settings
Name: Haven & Hearth
Location: Http://www.havenandhearth.c
Your security setting have blocked a self-signed application from running

That seemed rather straight forward enough, only to find that the program is not listed in Any of my security settings. Seriously, I know I am missing something and at this point I am completely out of idea. The reason I plugged the issue in this heading; I never got it in Win-XP or Win7. :)
